One day I want to be a super cool yogi

A few notes to self:

Don’t compare your chapter 1 to someone else’s chapter 20.

It is easy to compare your own life to others, criticize your own actions or lack thereof, and judge yourself harshly for not being exactly where you want to be. I do it all the time when I see others excelling or seeing the world or fulfilling their dreams. But I have to remember, the goal is to always move forward, no matter how slowly or how small my steps are.

Don’t wanna work out… and green baby food

Do I have to get back into shape? For the LONGEST TIME (essentially since the boys were born), I’ve used the excuse of having twins to avoid working out extensively. Not only did I tell myself that I had three long months of strict bed rest, but I gave birth to twins! So instead of getting back to the gym or hitting the pavement once my doctor cleared me at six weeks, I just kept making excuses. Work, being tired, maintaining a house, caring for two infants… Granted, I did run once, play a bit of golf, and an entire season of recreational volleyball… But fast forward almost a year later and I have no excuse. It’s not about a bikini body or fitting into prepregnancy pants. It’s about HEALTH and being able to MOVE with my children without losing my breath or fearing I can’t keep up one day.

The following pictures are random stuff and updates. Scroll down to get straight to the baby food recipes!

I keep telling myself that this blogging gig may not last too much longer, but then I wouldn’t have a healthy outlet for my endless, random thoughts, nor would I have a convenient online journal-thing. I revived my favorite bloggers page in case you’re interested!

Celebrated my sister‘s birthday over the weekend! By the way, I’m really loving my new chalkboard!

How cute were they in their Hawaiian outfits from their Gramma and Granpa??? They are joined in this picture with the singing Jellybean Rabbit. My goodness, it’s hilarious when the rabbit sings and dances because the boys stop in the tracks and are mesmerized by him!

We ate at a restaurant and MY GOSH Jer screamed practically the entire time! My new nickname for him: Jerodactyl!!! We need to nip this NOW because we can’t have a crazy baby out in public. It’s one thing to deal with the screaming at home, but he is learning FAST that it gets him what he wants and it’s also amusing (at least to himself). Behavior therapy effective immediately.

New play pen is under construction! Adrian’s loving it. Both babies are crawling – it’s great, as well as tiring!

Adrian tends to hold toys and items in the air.

He climbed up here himself.

Bathtime has upgraded from the little tub to a… fancy shmancy laundry basket! First day we tried it, they hated it. Second day, they hated it half the time. Third day, they would have begged for five more minutes if they could talk! It’s so fun seeing them splash around, but that means as we bathe them, we are in the splash zone!

Finding them like this in their cribs more often… I’m just waiting for the day they pull themselves up and we’ll know it’s time to lower that mattress! Jer (Camera 1) & Adrian (Camera 2):

It’s nice being able to trust them to sit long enough for me to prepare food and whatnot. Here they are hanging in the kitchen as I prepared their breakfast over the weekend:

Well, the homemade baby food saga continues!!! Here are two green “recipes” I’ve followed myself and had great success with. Again, I use the term “recipes” very loosely because they are hardly complicated! They are more like instructions to prepare baby food. But if you are like me, you want clear explanations and pictures in order to gain a foolproof method for yourself.

Asparagus Puree

From Tyler Florence’s Start Fresh

1 lb (10 medium stalks) asparagus, washed and tough stems removed

Mashed Peas

One bag frozen peas

– Cook peas as directed on package (I boiled them)

– Drain peas and cool

– Mash in a mixing bowl (If baby is not ready for texture, puree with a little bit of added water. If baby is old enough, no need to mash at all!)

wpid-2014-06-15-20.15.07.jpg.jpeg wpid-20140615_203126.jpg

After I scooped some peas into small containers for daycare, I divided the rest into an ice cube tray. This is after it froze:

After it freezes, I pop the cube out and store em in a ziplock bag. It’s so easy to defrost or pop in a cube or two in whatever I am cooking (chicken soup, pasta, etc).

Check out more recipes on my Homemade Baby Food page! It’s a work in progress, but slowly growing!

Do you have foolproof baby food recipes? Please share! I’d love to try new ones.

Social babies, first trip to the park, and red envelopes

It’s been… oh, I don’t know, a couple of weeks since I went for that first run postpartum? My excuses reasons are that I can barely catch a break to eat, sleep, and take a shower (sorry, TMI) as I juggle these twinfants (<– haha, do you like that one?), and that I heard I should be careful when getting back into work out mode because it can mess with milk production. Of course I don’t want to be a complete lazy bum, so I compromise by carrying the babies a lot (that’s 11 pounds of arm strength training!) and sometimes doing squats or lunges as I hold them! Hopefully we can go on more walks so at least I am getting sunshine and moving about 🙂

Ok, let’s get to the good stuff! Some fun pictures I want to share that I didn’t get a chance to upload on my Instagram, which, by the way, you can find more pictures and updates! See #thedeleontwins, lol.

Here’s Adrian doing a great job on tummy time! It’s usually not his favorite.

Jeremiah making some silly and cute faces! Both boys are getting more social and giving us the most darling smiles. This past week is when we saw the first signs of being social. They are jumping and kicking a lot. It looks like they are so happy and excited when we talk to them and it just fuels us up with happiness.

PhotoGrid_1381724926146My big thing I’ve started in the past few weeks is… BROTHER TIME!!! I love the idea of the boys learning to get along as early as possible. Since they were in the NICU for their first few weeks of life, they had to be separated=( But now that they are free to move about the country (did you hear that Southwest Airlines voice?), I place them together in their Pack n Play in the mornings after a good feeding. It’s so much fun and SUPER cute! Some days go really well and I find myself literally saying, “Thank you, boys!” out loud because I get a break to finally eat a good meal or freshen up from a long night or even catch just a few more Z’s. Adrian tends to be a lot more chill. Sometimes he even looks frozen, staring off into space. Meanwhile, Jeremiah is just the squirmy wormy and is always moving! He sometimes can move so much that he kicks his brother and then soon they are “fighting” for space in the pack n play. Often times, I start to hear someone crying, or both of them crying, and find one brother’s hand is in the other’s face and that brother is actually trying to eat that hand! It’s the funniest thing ever. Lately, when I hear crying, I am telling the boys to work it out! And then the sweetest thing happens, they fall asleep next to each other! It’s definitely a double blessing. Having twins is awesome: built-in playmates!

Thanks to Auntie Tiffany and Ate Sophia for the super cute onesies! And the clever captions are compliments of Auntie Aur! 😉

“Nerdy birdy!”

“Suit and tie!”

The boys’ first trip to the park!

It is very true. Going out for walks is not only very nice, but they are a MUST! We went out for a family walk to the park that is really close to our house. Sometimes I am just drained and don’t know how I could possible find the energy to pack up the boys and go for a walk. But once it happens, I am so grateful and so happy! The weather was really nice and we especially need to take advantage before it gets too cold. The boys seem to enjoy it, at least no major crying during the trip, just slight fussing, but overall they did great! It will be so much fun to see the boys grow up with this park. I can see them taking over once they are of age…

Check out four amazing generations! Pictured here are my dad, myself, my Lola (grandmother), and the boys! It was such a blessed moment to see the boys meet their great-grandmother.

And look! Goodies! My father’s father was Chinese (he passed away when my dad was a teen). Hence the red Chinese envelopes that are given out on special occasions. They are filled with moolah! I’m so excited to start the boys’ first savings account. I remember growing up and getting money/checks for birthdays and Christmas and my mom would deposit all of it into an account for me and I would watch it grow. Slowly, but steadily!

20131007_124017 20131007_123950

The boys had their two-month wellness checkup (doctor’s visit) today! I would share pictures and stories, but I will just save it all for next time! All I can say for now is, WOW are these boys growing!!! They are caught up in height and weight, even WITHOUT adjusting for their prematurity! It’s hard to believe these boys were so little once. Look how small they used to be! Confirming once more… the days are long, but the years are short. As much hard work as juggling these babes can be, time is FLYING, people!!! Every change I get, it’s so important to stop and soak in every detail of their existence.

An update in pictures, Instagram, and plans to run

“Sleep when they’re sleeping!” is what we’re told. But when would we actually do anything else?! These boys are a lot of work and they are worth every drop of sweat, tears, and blood. (Don’t worry, there is really no blood.)

As a (wannabe) writer, sometimes you must make sacrifices in order to get the words onto the page. Gotta capitalize when the opportunity strikes! I’ll try to be brief… key word, “try.”

So I am trying something new with my posts… I will just upload a bunch of pictures, add captions, and hopefully that’ll be enough story-telling for ya! The pics may be in a weird order though. Whoops.

By the way, did you notice my new Instagram widget on my blog? You can see the pictures I upload to IG (<– already using nicknames!) either on the right of the screen if you’re viewing from a desktop or on the bottom if you are viewing from your smartphone. I am SOOO with the times! (Maybe a little too with it… I feel like I’ve been posting like crazy, but I just got so excited because I finally saw what the craze was about. I even used my first HASHTAG the other day. I used to raise an eyebrow when I’d see posts #justlikethis or #evenmorelikethisone. But here I am, starting my own with #thedeleontwins :).

Why yes, that is chocolate cake at 4 am... don't judge me!

Are things getting easier? Hmm… hard to say yes. It’s more like we are getting used to things, learning more about the boys, and trying to anticipate their needs better. But already the boys are looking older. We see creases in their little bodies indicating they are getting chubbier! Their faces are fuller. They are more alert and really follow movement and sound with their eyes. They are getting stronger! Diaper changes are getting tricky as they kick and squirm, arch their backs and lock their knees. Still loving the little sounds and grunts they make. Precious little things they are.

On one last note… I can’t wait to get back into running! I know I will be SUPER winded, but I have just seriously been looking forward to getting back out there. I felt like I had just gotten into running right before I got put onto bed rest. I think about it often, especially as I read my favorite running blogs (Hungry Runner Girl, Skinny Runner, STUFT Mama). I am aiming to participate in the Elk Grove 5K fun run in October. This Thursday will mark 6 weeks since I gave birth, so I will finally be able to start working out again. I’ll have to set myself up a nice little schedule to ease back into getting in shape. Bed rest has made me so weak!

RESULTS: Elk Grove 2013 5K Fun Run Series #1

He did it! The hubby ran his first 5K! I am so proud of him for accomplishing something he probably never though he’d ever do. I was cheesing throughout the entire (almost) race knowing that I was running w/ my hubby. I was on the fence for the longest time, debating whether or not I wanted to run the race. Part of me wanted to just curl up in bed since it would be about 30 degrees (I’m a Cali girl) and it would be super early (I never run at 8 am!) and I could think of other things (sleep) that sounded more appealing. But I am ECSTATIC that we made it out there and now the hubs has his first 5K down.
Check out our times!

To run or not to run?

The next round of Elk Grove 5K fun runs starts real soon. Race #1 is already on Saturday, Jan. 27th! The thing is, I am not sure if I want to do it. It is so cold outside and I have not been running since I’ve been sick. You know what this sounds like though? A bunch of excuses. I need to just get out there no matter how lazy or tired I am and just run like the cute little picture above says. There is a long weekend ahead (yay for the MLK holiday on Monday!). No excuses for me to get at least two good runs in this weekend. Right? Right.
