A holiday shindig, mimosas, and an afro

What good are the holidays without spending time with friends, eating food, being merry, and…

Toasting with mimosas?!?!

I hosted an annual get together with some friends this year, which I named:

The Holly Jolly Shindig.

First Father’s Day, a Reunion, and a Few Recaps

The time has come. Keeping up the blog is now really hard for me to do. I’ve been super busy at work, planning the boys’ first birthday party (can you believe they’re turning ONE soon? I cannot), and THIS:

That is my high school class during our senior year. Our ten year reunion is this year! As lead of the planning committee, my days have been filled with keeping the team on track, publicizing the event, and fundraising. Whew! Thank goodness it only happens once a decade. I’ve looked forward to my ten year reunion for a long time, but now with kids, full-time work outside of the home, and a house to maintain, this sure is some task!

The hubs had an awesome first Father’s Day! It was simple and sweet. He is one proud papa!

One thing about twins you have to know is that, “If it isn’t one, it’s the other!” Here’s what I mean:

It’s so hard to get both boys looking at the camera, let alone smiling. You take what you can get!

Here are the boys with my dad on Father’s Day. They love their Granpa very much! We went to a yummy Filipino restaurant in town, followed by boba at a new spot!

All three of us enjoy eating so much these days! The boys are eating very well. It’s so awesome to feed them good food. I’ll add recipes I used for the boys’ food because I want other moms to realize how easy it is to prepare food at home. It’s time-consuming at first, but with great planning and organization, it benefits not only the babies, but the entire family!

They are used to sitting in their high chairs and can feed themselves if I give them fruit slices (apples/pears) or their new favorite, Baby Mum Mums! Thanks, Auntie Heather, for telling us about them and thanks, Ninang/Auntie Melissa and Ate Cristina, for getting them for us!

I have so much to update, I don’t know where to begin! Let’s start with the most important for now. We’re still doing our Boba Fridays!!! The boys can’t get enough and we don’t want to deny them happiness:

We celebrated Ate Cristina’s 4th birthday earlier in the month! You may have seen on my Instagram (@sharissespieces6) a video clip of the boys enjoying one of the rides at Chuck E Cheese. Let me just say, CUTEST THING EVER!!! Here’s our family picture at one of the cool stations. How neat is this? It appears like it’s pencil-drawn:

I can’t help but share the video. I love how they’re so into grabbing the steering wheel. If you look closely, Adrian’s (left) face is so adorable as he makes a “Yikes!” face!

Since I have too much to update, I’ll save them for another day and just add this picture collage. We attended my friend, Bernard’s, show last night, The Producers! It was hilarious and clever and we witnessed some amazing talent! Here we are with Carmen Ghia (“He had a stroke!” and Leo Bloom (OCD much). They were fabulous!!! I enjoy watching shows and especially love supporting our local theater. Can’t wait for the next one!

Did I ever mention Bernard has been my friends since the 1st grade? He’s also on our high school reunion planning committee. How awesome is that?!

Gosh, the countdown has already begun to the boys’ big first birthday. Looking back at how tiny they were and how big and grown they are now really tugs at my heartstrings!!! Time sure does fly.

Two weeks already!

Our boys are two weeks old! They warned us time would fly. Both boys are making wonderful progress and we’re so proud of them. Jeremiah is looking like he’ll come home sooner. He got his feeding tube taken out today and is doing very well with his feedings! Adrian will need more time, but his medications are being reduced and he is so much more alert than before!

Look who came to visit today! The boys can’t wait till they can run around with C.A. After their visit, we all got our grub on at the Squeeze Inn! I’ll let the picture do all the talking:)

We miss our boys sooooooo much. It’s so hard saying goodbye at the hospital. They are so beautiful and perfect. I love them too much already!

Week 33 and sweetness!

HAPPY 33 WEEKS TO US!!! Another week we have been blessed to have the boys cooking, growing, and getting more ready for their life outside the womb. We’ve made it such a long way from when things were a little rocky a while back… and here we are! Fighting like champs! 🙂

By the way… I finally updated the collage on my Baby Story page. You know you love my awesome Paint skills!

Congrats to Kate & Will! It was such a great moment to see them leave the hospital and introduce their son, GEORGE!, to the world. I cried when I saw them. It was beautiful and got me giddy to know that the hubs and I have that special moment to look forward to soon!

Now on to cupcake goodness… where have these been all my life?! Ok, to be honest, I used to think spending money on cupcakes was ridiculous. Give me $5 and I’ll make you two dozen cupcakes with yummy frosting and cute designs! But these were so delicious that I have completely changed my mind. Thanks to Lani and Hannah Lei for visiting us and bringing these goodies!!! Our favorites were the bottom left and bottom middle. I’m drooling just thinking about them. Sadly, they are all gone now.

Hannah was such a good girl! She was so sweet sharing smiles and giggles with me during her visit. I loved watching her keep her hands out as if she needed to balance while eating.

Her Uncle Jing told her she could take her pick with one of the twins! Let’s see who wins her heart! =P

Gotta share the other goodies we have been so fortunate to have. Our family and friends are the best!

Spaghetti infused with veggies (carrots, zucchini, and onions) from the sister

Cowboy quesadilla with roasted broccoli from the sister

And this AMAZING spread of Thai food from the hubby’s cousin… (the angel chorus goes off).

I’m missing a picture of the spam, rice, and Panera Bread my good girlfriend brought over… but I was just as ecstatic as the last time she made me spam!

It’s crazy how much the excitement is growing, as well as the anxiousness/nervousness with the babies almost here. I’m going to try my hardest to keep posting to this blog. I told myself that I will post something once a week with a quick blurb or recap. I’m excited not only to share the babies, but to also get back into the groove with working out and all other kinds of things with my life! I know that won’t happen immediately, but when it does, I plan to write about it here! 🙂 Thanks for reading…

Week 29 & Happy Summer!

2013-06-23 Week 29

Whiteboard: My sister!

Another week! Pushing through and getting by as my belly gets bigger! Compliments to my sister for preparing the whiteboard update this week 🙂 Yes, the babies reached 2.5 lbs according to our ultrasound this past week. It’s such a blessing to know they are growing at the same rate and that they are at the expected size for being 29 weeks. During our ultrasound, we are only given an estimate of weight. To get an idea of how long the babies are, I’ve seen varying estimates of length according to charts at the doctor’s office, books, and online references. The babies are anywhere from 11-17 inches. Quite a big window, so I’m not holding my breath for their size. Regardless, I want them to just keep on growing and getting bigger, healthier, and stronger!

Some fun updates from the week…

It is officially summer! My favorite season. I just love being in dresses and flip flops, going to the beach (I am long overdue for visiting one), feeling the sun on my skin… I won’t lie, I can get overheated and irritated by the heat as much as the next person. But for one thing, we have dry heat in this part of the country, unlike the wicked east (that’s where the hubs moved from) that has the added horror of humidity. Second, I would rather find nice, cool A/C and wear shorts and a tank instead of dealing with the wintertime and having to bundle up with 7 layers of clothing and still struggle to get warm!

The hubs gave me a manicure! It’s nice to know I have my own personal salon person who can do my toes and nails! He is actually really good, I might add. I may have found a way to save not just money, but the effort! Now if only he can cut hair…

Golf-themed cake!

Golf-themed cake!

We celebrated the hubby’s 33rd birthday this week! It was wonderful spending some needed quality time with him on his special day. Then we had friends come to the house for pizza and ice cream. Felt like a replica of my birthday celebration… The cake was super yummy and creative! It was a golf-themed cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes.

Lastly, check out this halo in the sky!!! Turns out that this phenomenon is technically called a Sundog. (I already asked if a ring around the moon is a mooncat, but we don’t have confirmation on that just yet.) Something about diamond dust… the challenge was taking a picture of it without blinding yourself. I succeeded 🙂

It’s your turn!

What’s your favorite season and why?

Have you ever seen a cool phenomenon involving the sky?

Favorite cake flavor? If you’re not a cake person, favorite dessert?

Here, Fishie Fishie!

Here’s my new favorite picture of us. Hubs tried to hint about the twins with his peace sign by my belly. 🙂 This was taken at the Nimbus Fish Hatchery in Folsom.

After our plans to visit Daffodil Hill fell through (closed for the 2013 season!!!), we and some friends somehow ended up first at A&W (you’ve GOT to check out the A&W at Folsom Palladio) and then at the Hatchery. Turned out to be a cool day! The Hatchery is this place where salmon eggs are hatched and then released into the wild. We toured the visitor center that was filled with information on salmon – from how they are bred and what they look like as babies to what their lives are like in the sea and some of the dangers they face out there. Then we bought some feed and fed the fish!

Too much fun with my BB (birthday buddy – our birthdays are on the same day!).

Super adorable, right? Yeah, I thought so.

Most precious of all was this photo… I love hearing her say, “two babies!”

In case ya missed it, check out my post on 18 weeks and the BIG BIG news HERE!

Have you ever been to the Nimbus Fish Hatchery or any other type of “fishie” place?

Have your plans ever fallen through, but then you end up doing something unexpected and the day is saved?
