An art class and a first birthday photoshoot!

Risky behavior over here. Using only one hand on cruise mode.

I don’t have a recipe, but I can share a link for you to try. Thanks, Kendreezy, for capitalizing on our resources. Who knew we had the exact ingredients for a beergarita?!?! Note to self, get lime-aid next time.

What happens when you take your nap later than scheduled? Your brother wakes up you because it’s time to play!

This is pretty much how most of the day goes lately. The boys just play and explore and mess with each other.

Sooo, the boys have SWITCHED on us this past week. Adrian has been extremely clingy, fussy, whiney, and difficult. It’s such a 180 from the weeks before when Jer was always the crazy one. It was such a switch that I even looked at Jer and asked him, “Who are you!? Are you an imposter?!” This morning, Adrian totally threw his bowl to the floor, which was previously SUCTIONED onto his tray. I’m party blaming the poor suction capability, but I cannot believe how much Adrian is acting up these days!

I took an art class! It was called Mixed Media and the featured project was acrylic paint on the gelli plate.

My creations! Greeting cards on top (my favorite one is the last one), bookmarks (some personalized), and random pieces of art.

I  had a lot of fun, although the class was not entirely what I had expected. Hopefully I can take the calligraphy class I’ve been wanting to take so I can work on my lettering styles!

Speaking of art and all things creative, have you heard of Fashion by Mayhem? I just LOVE her Instagram photos. Makes me wish I had a little girl… SHH!

Finally… a sneak peek of our photoshoot today. We wanted to capture the boys when they turned one. Love em!

It’s so bittersweet. I am so excited the boys are getting bigger and doing better things and playing more and more with each other. On the other hand, I’m so sad that time really does fly, even when the days crawl slowly by. And today is the first of the month, the time I’d usually do another monthly picture. But now that they are one, I decided to leave it to yearly… MAYBE bi-yearly (twice a month?).

Big boys in high chairs and a green bean, potato, & spinach puree

These monkeys get funnier EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. The best part about letting them loose into the playroom is that they find the most hilarious ways to entertain themselves. They love things that spin so they occupied themselves with their around-the-world toy that we purposely placed upside down on the side of the room:

We still have battles when it comes to meal time, but the victories we have achieved sure are sweet!

Not gonna lie, thank you, ELMO, for continuing to keep the boys calm (distracted) as they eat. It’s been fun singing along, but the downfall is that a song will be stuck in my head for the three days. I JUST got the brushing teeth song outta my head!

What are those amazing-looking devices that appear stuck to the boys’ trays so they don’t throw them across the room and make a mess all over the kitchen? Why they are these wonderful suction bowls I ordered for the boys! They stay on the boys’ trays long enough for the boys to feed themselves, but Jer (of course) figured out how to knock his over and he was not very happy when I took it away. Anyway, these bowls will be very helpful getting the boys used to plateware and it is nice that they come with a cover and spoon for travelling.

Guess who’s getting really close to reaching the door handles…wpid-20140821_062259.jpg

My blog has been all baby these days, but can you blame me? They’re too cute and funny not to share. Makes me look not so interesting. But here’s something I was proud of! I present an “adult lunchable!” Turkey, cottage cheese, pear slices, and wheat crackers. At my work desk I am always munching so I am trying to get back into healthy snacks. There was a time when I was doing really well bringing healthy snacks to work. Need to get back into the groove.

Now for my recipe share. wpid-photogrid_1401981725347.jpg

Finally got around to typing this recipe up. At the time I made it, I didn’t have kale so I used spinach instead. It was so yummy, I was licking the spoon myself. I think it was the Parmesan cheese at the end that really got me hooked.

You must remember the most important part of preparation. No, it’s not ensuring you have all your ingredients or that your recipe is handy. It’s that you have a glass of wine at your fingertips.

Green Bean, Potato, and Spinach Puree

Adapted from Tyler Florence’s Start Fresh

Ingredients

1/4 lb green beans

1 large russet (baking) potato, peeled and sliced

one handful of spinach

1 cup organic chicken stock

3 tablespoons freshly grated parmesan cheese

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

wpid-img_20140604_210328.jpg

In a small pot, combine all ingredients except cheese and olive oil. Heat over medium heat until boiling. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes or until potatoes are tender.

wpid-img_20140604_212351.jpg

Remove ingredients and place in a blender or food processor.  Add Parmesan cheese and olive oil. Depending on your baby’s ability to eat solids, blend or puree until desired texture is reached. At the time, I pureed like crazy because I only recently introduced the boys to solid foods.

wpid-img_20140604_213613.jpg

Ta-da! I divided the batch into old Gerber containers to freeze. Verdict: The boys sorta liked it. I liked it more than they did. I need to make this again now that they are really eating and see how they like it now.

Sleep training success!

The boys went to sleep for the night at 6:45 pm.

Six.Forty.Five.

The sun was still up! I didn’t know what to do first: eat, drink, cook, bake, prepare work lunches, shower, watch TV, watch an entire movie…

We started sleep training two weeks ago and it has been amazing. If you’re interested in how we did it, check out my post on sleep training here!

I was hesitant to sleep train at first for two reasons: 1) I believed sleep training meant CIO (cry it out) until the babies pass out from exhaustion and I couldn’t bear the thought of doing that, and 2) I learned that even after successfully sleep training babies, they go through dreaded “sleep regressions” due to growth spurts and being more alert and stimulated.

After doing some research and finding a sleep training method I agreed with, we did it! The past week has been wonderful. The boys are in bed early, giving us time to eat, clean up, and catch up on TV shows and watch movies!!! We’ll ride this wave as looooong as we can.

What we’ve been up to lately…

Silly Jer… wpid-20140317_161031.jpg

We’re going out for more walks!

The weather was beautiful over the weekend. We hit the 80s!

Gonna have the boys enjoy sitting in this figuration before their feet are too long…

wpid-IMG_20140316_165114.jpg

If you were to ask me what is “music to my ears,” it would be a hard decision between the boys’ laughter/giggles and…

SILENCE!!!

Check out the cribs…

The boys’ nursery has a new crib arrangement!

We initially had their cribs on opposite sides of the room like this. Then the boys’ Lolo (hubs’ dad) suggested this option. I love the idea of the boys being next to each other and eventually being able to see each other through their cribs. Shot out to our good friends Ryan & Jo for our beautiful maternity photos. We had them put onto canvases and they are now up in the nursery! You can see the rest of our maternity shoot here!

Well, I’m off to go and do something else because… it’s only 8:30! Watch out, I may sneak out and paint the town pink…
